- Product Description:
- ● A stainless steel street elbow is a 90-degree pipe fitting with male threads on one end and female threads on the other.
- ● It is a 90-degree elbow with internal threads on one end and external threads on the other, unlike a regular elbow that has internal threads on both ends.
- Used for:
- ● A street elbow is a plumbing fitting used to connect fittings and pipes at a 90-degree angle.
- ● It is used to connect a male and female threaded fitting without needing a separate male threaded pipe nipple.
- Advantage:
- ● A street elbow has both male and female threads, unlike a regular elbow, which only has female threads.
- ● This enables it to save space when connecting a male and female threaded component, since it would not require a male threaded nipple.
- ● To be able to connect a male and female threaded component, a regular elbow would require a male threaded nipple. (That is a close nipple, Hex Nipple, or barrel nipple.)
- To Install:
- ● Thread the male threaded end into a female threaded fitting of the same size.
- ● Thread the female threaded end onto a male threaded fitting of the same size.
- Item Sizing:
- ● A street elbow fitting's size is based on the size of the thread it will connect to.
- ● For Example, A 1" street elbow pipe fitting will have a 1" male thread and a 1" female thread and will install into a 1" female thread and a 1" male thread.
- Also referred to as:
- ● Street l.
- ● Street el.
- ● Street ell
- ● Street ells..
- Other Options:
- ● Other options include Pipe Elbows, which are also 90-degree fittings, except they have female threads on both ends.
- ● Other options include 45 Elbows, which have a 45-degree angle.
- ● Scroll down to "Related Products" for more options on 90-degree pipe fittings.
- Materials of Construction:
- ● Manufactured with Stainless Steel 304 & 316
What is a Street Elbow (Street 90)?
A street elbow, also called a street el, is a 90-degree fitting used to change the flow direction in a piping system by 90 degrees. It has male threads on one side of the elbow bend and female threads on the other. It is used to join a male-threaded component to a female-threaded component at a 90-degree angle. It is a short length of pipe at a 90-degree angle, with different threads on either end. This enables it to connect a male threaded pipe and a female threaded fitting without needing a pipe nipple to convert the threads, as you would if using a regular elbow. This makes them ideal in situations where space is limited and fewer fittings are required in the connection.
Street Elbow vs Regular Elbow:
Whereas both elbows change the direction of a piping system by 90 degrees, a street elbow differs from a regular elbow in the type of threads found on each connection end. An elbow only has female threads, while a street fitting has both female threads and male threads. A regular pipe elbow is used for connecting two male-threaded components, most often two male-threaded pipes. By contrast, a street fitting is designed to connect a female-threaded component and a male-threaded component, for example, a female-threaded fitting and a pipe. In this case, you could still use a regular elbow as it has female threads and can accept the male-threaded pipe; it would just require a male pipe nipple to convert the female-threaded fitting to male threads; however, using a street elbow will save space since you won't require the extra fitting.
What is a Street Elbow used for?
A street elbow is used to connect male threads and female threads at a right angle (that is, at 90 degrees). To simplify it will join a pipe or fitting with male threads to a component with female threads. It is often used to join a pipe and a threaded fitting, since it can connect directly to a pipe with male threads and to a threaded fitting with female threads. They are commonly found in piping applications, including plumbing, fuel and oil, HVAC, food and beverage, construction, manufacturing, and fluid transfer.
